djay for iPad - this shit just got real!

This is great big slice of awesome, served up with a side of geekery!

djay for iPad will be carrying over most of the features from the Mac version including BPM syncing, Automix, Automatic transitions, Speed and Pitch changes, and EQ / Gain settings. In fact, Algoriddim tells us that the iPad version will be technically superior to the Mac version in many ways and currently performs better in some aspects. The iPad version is expected to be available in the App Store shortly after iOS 4.2 becomes available. iOS 4.2 is expected by the end of November and they've set up a teaser page to sign up for a notification of the release.

Dance dance dance dance dance to the radio

30 years ago today Ian Curtis of Joy Division took his own life.

To mark the anniversary of the singer's death, Peter Hook, the band's bass player, will play the debut album Unknown Pleasures live on 18 May, with his band The Light, at his new club FAC251 in Manchester.

In a fitting tribute, two of the singers that will sing as Ian Curtis next month, originally stepped in for him when he was too ill to play three decades ago.

Still missed ...

Ninja Slug discovered!

Boasting a tail three times the length of its head, the newly described long-tailed slug is found only in the high mountains of the Malaysian part of Borneo.

The new species shoots its mate with "love darts" made of calcium carbonate and spiked with hormones--hence its nickname: ninja slug. Scientists believe this Cupid-like behavior may increase reproduction success.

Ninja love darts ... you 'avin that? eh?

Airspace Rebooted - pause & reboot of European airspace

A visualisation of the northern European airspace returning to use after being closed due to volcanic ash. Due to varying ash density across Europe, the first flights can be seen in some areas on the 18th and by the 20th everywhere is open.

The flight data is courtesy of flightradar24.com and covers a large fraction of Europe. There are a few gaps (most noticeably France) and no coverage over the Atlantic, but the picture is still clear.

The map data is CC-by-SA openstreetmap.org and contributors.

This CC-by-SA visualisation was produced by itoworld.com with support from ideasintransit.org

Social plug ins ... Facebook re-wires the web.

I 'like' this ... really very cool functionality introduced by Facebook has massive scope for 'Social shopping' and a more social web experience.

Levi's seem to be the first major player to get something up and working and it works well!
Share products you 'like' with your friends, they can see your choices in the store and it appears on your Facebook feed as well (the only downside, i can see so far will, be the amount of 'like' spam that will start appearing in your feed)

A cheeky little piece of added value is the upcoming birthdays panel on the right,
so it's Joe Bloggs' birthday and he 'likes' these products ... gift problem solved!! (similar to Amazon's wish list, but prettier).

You can check out the live store here: http://store.levi.com/
And the Facebook developers social plugins suite here: http://developers.facebook.com/plugins

Lava Lamp Centrifuge

It's a big question and it needs a big answer!
"Would a Lava Lamp work in a high-gravity environment such as Jupiter? Would the wax still rise to the surface? Would the blobs be smaller and faster? With broad disagreement on the answers, I built a large centrifuge to find out."

so now you know!

nice!
